The Cux 87 "Krabbenkutter" {part 22}

      With the mizzen mast now in place and rigged, it was time to focus on the main mast.  the booms still need to be sized down, and the hardware needs to be added.  this is where we will continue, to arrive to the conclusion of the main mast being cemented into place.  I had done a comparison of the pictures from my wife's camera and my own.  her camera won easily, but there are pictures from both here, due to the moments in which they were taken.  let's begin.........

      the hardware on the deck needed to be finished , before everything else......nothing is in the way at the moment.  the rest of the bow hardware was cemented into place and then the back stays were done.  I had run out of the black thread I had dyed, so I had to make more.  another sharpie hits the dust!

      The last shot here is a good shot of the winch.....I had to add that in.  the main mast was then brought to the table and work began.  the rings were first, set in place with the eye bolts.

      The lights and block hardware went on together.....faster than I thought possible.  the more that was added, the cooler it looked!

      The large center light had no glass to fit into the slot in it's face.  I had good luck with the light on the mizzen mast, using the Testor's window maker, so I decided to try it here also.  the gap was bigger, and I didn't know if it would make the span........but it did, and dried to create a clear lens.  I also had a thought to the opening at the bottom of the light.  I cut out a small round wooden circle and filled it in.  afterwards, it was painted gold, blending it in nicely.

      While this was drying, I started to work on the net bars, cutting the bars to length and putting the ends on them.  boy, these are going to be big!

      The last bit of hardware to be added to the main mast was the two double blocks for the booms.  after they were installed, the main mast was ready to be cemented into the deck.  the moment of truth had arrived!

      Here are a few more random shots that I think that are worth noting....enjoy!

       Once the mast is dry and firmly in place, the rigging can begin, and  bring it closer to it's conclusion.  the last thing that will be done will be the nets and the required rigging, and other details I might add at a later date.  until then......enjoy.....and AHOY!

       P.S.  You've probably seen that weird looking thing on the box under my monitor shelf.  for the curious folks out there, if you navigate my blog site, you can read all about the B&M snow plow.  It's an old Ambroid kit that was put out sometime in the mid 50's.  It was given to by by a friend, and I've had it for well over a year now.  It was already started and i hadn't done anything to it, until the day I was contacted by a gentleman wanting a copy of the plans for it.......the rest is in build logs.  Have fun with whatever you do...you never know where the next build will take you.   so long!!!
